Born in Palencia, Spain, Miguel Garcia, aka Marques de Jadraque, lives and works between Brooklyn and London. Trained from a young age in his hometown and later in Barcelona and Los Angeles, Jadraque is an artist constantly on the move. His work parallels that movement. From figurative to still life to landscapes, his range is wide from the most classically academic to minimalist and abstract.
Jadraque's painting focuses on the space between artist and subject. The work reflects his fascination with capturing that distance, "what is there that we don't see, what we feel but can't quite grasp", he says, and all nuanced by light, colour, form, shape, sound, smell and the atmosphere that surrounds it.
His series' depict commonplace objects in his daily life: clothing lines, spoons, Spanish wine pitchers, frying pans, cups, silverware and kitchen utensils, in which colour and shape are the main appeals for those who admire his exceptional technique. Jadraque's work is part of public and private collections in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Hong Kong, California, Mexico, The Vatican, Washington D.C., London and New York.
